The Neighborhood of Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada
November 5, 2022The Pros and Cons of Moving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas
November 9, 2022What is The Latest Information?
Update November 9, 2022: It was announced yesterday that the State of Nevada would NOT give tax payer dollars to build another stadium in Las Vegas. According to the Review-Journal, there is still talk of a tax break or other government backed incentive but talks are still underway. The Tropicana site is still in the mix as the place that has all of the attention at this moment. Since this is an ongoing situation, I will post updates once I receive them.
Oakland A’s To Las Vegas Update November 2022- Are the Oakland A’s moving to Las Vegas? Since last month’s Oakland City council meeting failed to vote on a new ballpark, Oakland A’s officials are now focused on Las Vegas. Several reports from the Las Vegas Review Journal clearly show that talks continue for 2 possible ballpark sites. The first one would be located at the current Tropicana Hotel located at Las Vegas Blvd and Tropicana. The second location would be at The Life is Beautiful Festival grounds located at Sahara and Las Vegas Blvd. Talks are underway right now for both locations. Summerlin seems to be no longer in consideration. Tropicana remains the likely spot according to the Las Vegas Review Journal: https://www.reviewjournal.com/videos/tropicana-still-likely-spot-for-as-move-from-oakland/
Timeline of Events Leading to a Las Vegas Move:
If things workout for Las Vegas and we get another pro team here in the valley, several factors have to happen: First, will the tax payers give money to the A’s like we did to the Raiders? We already know that will not happen. Would there be a room tax increase to support this project? That will not happen as of 11/9/22. Depends on who wins the elections on November 9th as well as if there will be public support. Second is timing. The Oakland A’s have up to 2024 to stay at their current location at the Oakland Coliseum. Third is relocation during a possible 3 year build out of a domed stadium here in Las Vegas.
If the Oakland A’s will become the Las Vegas A’s, they will play during construction of their new stadium at The Las Vegas Ballpark located in Summerlin-14 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip. This ballpark has 10,000 seats and usually sells more tickets than 3 MLB teams. It’s a brand new facility that was completed in 2020. It can easily support the Las Vegas A’s for a few years while their new stadium is being built. Talks have already confirmed this theory.

In Conclusion:
There is still a lot that needs to happen with this move. Oakland A’s still have to consider what will be the best move for them from a financial point. The city of Oakland has already lost one pro team and seems to me that they are willing to lose another team as well. Will the Oakland A’s end up in Las Vegas? It’s hard to say since there is still a lot on the table that needs to be addressed.
If they make it to Summerlin, The Las Vegas Ballpark is a great location. Downtown Summerlin is across the street which means there are plenty of places to eat, shop and hang out before and after any MLB game! Check out Downtown Summerlin here: https://summerlin.com/downtown-summerlin/
Are the Oakland A’s moving to Las Vegas? Will it happen next year? I think so because talks have been going on for awhile now. Other locations could happen as well but timing is making this the hardest thing to figure out. There is not a lot of time for the Oakland A’s to make up their minds and form a private/public partnership. 2024 is closer than we think. Las Vegas is very business friendly which means there will be a deal out of this at some point.
